BEETS Go Camping

6.17.14-BEETS-Camping_IMG_7034On Tuesday and Wednesday, June 17-18, 2014 the summer BEETS (Band of Environmentally Educated and Employable Teens) went to the Presidio for a great experience of camping overnight. As a kick-off event for the summer BEETS interns, the goal was to provide a safe and fun time to get to know peers and to experience the outdoors.
The Camping in the Presidio Bus came to pick everyone up at the Hayes Valley Youth Center at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, and when the BEETS arrived at the campsite they had an orientation and set up their tents and gear.

After lunch, prepared by Roderick, cleaned up by Jennifer and Angie, they hiked to the Presidio Nursery for a tour and activities. In the evening they cooked hot dogs and corn-on-the-cob over an open fire, with salad and beans prepared by Kyle, and Monique.

After dinner clean-up (thank you Candy and Jahnae), the evening brought a sunset hike and chilling out afterwards around the campfire making s’mores.
In the morning waking up at 7:30 AM in the forest was invigorating. After making breakfast (thanks to Windy and Maceo), cleaning up (thanks to Jairo and Ivan), they took down their tents and packed up. The camp bus came and brought them back to the Youth Center. A great bonding event to start the summer!
