BEETS Building the Hayward Rec Garden

On October 11, 2011 the BEETS (Band of Environmentally Educated and Employable Teens) began designing a new, more permanent garden at Hayward Recreation Center. They decided how it should look and what measurements were need to put it together. A great sense of pride to design this project on their own.

BEETS Tending the Koshland Garden

The fall BEETS (Band of Environmentally Educated and Employable Teens) have been busy tending and building new gardens throughout the Western Addition. In Koshland Garden they readied the soil for planting of fava beans, and dug up the summer crop of Jerusalem artichokes.

BEETS-Presidio Restoration Project

On Saturday, October 1st the BEETS (Band of Environmentally Educated and Employable Teens) joined the Presidio Trust rangers for a morning of removing invasive species around Mountain Lake Park. The area getting the makeover will become the habitat for the endangered San Francisco Lessingia, which is a rare flowering plant in the daisy family.

A Lesson in Soil Testing

Meet our Fall 2011 BEETS!

On September 13th we welcomed our new fall BEETS (Band of Environmentally Educated and Employable Teens). Three youth stayed on from the summer: Anija Gaino, Lyric Lewis and Ezekikel McCarter. Summer Trip to Green Gulch Farm
