Rosa Parks Elementary Garden Classes

December 26th, 2010

CommunityGrows has been assisting Rosa Parks Elementary School with their new garden education program which started up this fall 2010.  Nora Brereton, Programs Manager and Environmental Educator, has been working with teachers, students, staff and the PTA to help get the garden spaces up and running and lead the science content outdoor garden classes on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Often the classes are done in conjunction with the school’s nutritionist, Louise Hjortenfalk.   This fall many of the 2nd through 5th grade classes and their teachers participated.  Students got to choose what seasonal vegetables to plant, learned how to use and care for tools, and set up rules to respect the garden.  The PTA raised funding to support CommunityGrows participation.  We are thrilled to be there as we are at John Muir Elementary School.
