Deck the Halls with Wreaths

Holiday4

Over the weekend neighbors and friends gathered together for the 14th annual wreath and card making event at the Hayes Valley South Community Room. Beautiful wreaths were created by all, with ribbon, trinkets, glitter, and bells adorning each and every one!

Joining the festivities were the BEETS (Band of Environmentally Educated and Employable Teens), a program designed to teach students ages 15-19 about environmental issues and help them to develop job skills.

While many will hang their wreaths on doors and walls this holiday season, some creative thinkers are now wearing holly-themed necklaces. Either way, the wreaths look great!

A special thanks to the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association for donating to make this event a success. It was a lovely afternoon with the wreaths, cards, cider, and good company. Thank you for all who attended and happy holidays!

Wreaths and Cards Start the Holidays!

12-3-16-wreath_img_9037On Saturday, December 3, 2016, CommunityGrows held its thirteenth annual Wreath and Card Making event in the Western Addition. This event, which took place at Hayes Valley South Community Room, is a chance for us to thank all our partners and friends for supporting us this year, and helping us cultivate healthy youth by growing gardens in low-income, diverse communities. The BEETS (Band of Environmentally Educated and Employable Teens), a program of CommunityGrows for 15-19-year-old teens, helped to run the afternoon event. 12-3-16-wreath_img_9066They assisted families and other youth in making wreaths and writing cards. Frances Neagley, from the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association, presided over the card-making activities, 12-3-16-wreath_img_9050along with help from four great sophomores from University High School, Isabel Glen, Fiona Brauer, Sophie Nagle and Jackie Fong. 12-3-16-wreath_img_9107We were also thrilled to have a group of residents from the Walden Academy join us and make wreaths. 12-3-16-wreath_img_9120The afternoon was filled with creativity and fun, 12-3-16-wreath_img_911212-3-16-wreath_img_908312-3-16-wreath_img_9047with everyone enjoying each others’ company, holiday music, hot apple cider, and pizza. 12-3-16-wreath_img_909012-3-16-wreath_img_9122Thank you to everyone for a successful afternoon. 12-3-16-wreath_img_911612-3-16-wreath_img_9126For more photos, please check out our Flickr Photostream here.

Wreath and Card Making Fun

12.12.15-Wreath_IMG_5205On Saturday afternoon, December 12, 2015 CommunityGrows hosted our 13th annual Wreath and Card Making event. Held at the Hayes Valley South Community Room, it attracted many residents, families and youth from the community. 12.12.15-Wreath_IMG_5233The BEETS (Band of Environmentally Educated and Employable Teens) helped out getting everyone started with frames, boughs, and trinkets. 12.12.15-Wreath_IMG_519712.12.15-Wreath_IMG_5174There was warm cider and munchies to share. Residents keep coming back every year to relax, enjoy each others company and let their creative juices flow. We were also honored to have Devi Zinzuvadia from Mo’Magic help with the card-making table where lots of beautiful creations were made. 12.12.15-Wreath_IMG_5183A highlight of the afternoon was the arrival of London Breed, our District 5 Supervisor and President of the Board of Supervisors. 12.12.15-Wreath_IMG_5275We were so glad to share our creations with her. Everyone did an amazing job, and the wreaths and cards were spectacular! 12.12.15-Wreath_IMG_527912.12.15-Wreath_IMG_5280For more photos, see our Flickr Photostream here.12.12.15-Wreath_IMG_5282

Wreath and Card Making Fun!

12.6.14-WreathCard_IMG_9503On Saturday, December 6, 2014 a great turnout of the community with families and youth made our Wreath and Card Making event an overwhelming success. Our BEETS (Band of Environmentally Educated and Employable Teens) engaged everyone arriving, showing them how to make wreaths for the first time. With so many great trinkets and baubles, ribbons, ornaments, and boughs of greenery, the creativity was overflowing.
