On Friday, September 30th, Gateway High School joined CommunityGrows staff Melissa Tang and BEETS intern Ivan Gladamez in Koshland Garden for a volunteer Day of Service. These 15 youth and their Humanities Teacher, Amanda LaBerge, did a lot of weeding, mulching, composting and getting the garden ready for the fall. Great job everyone and thank you so much for making the garden shine!
On Saturday, March 15, 2014 CommunityGrows had a great spring workday in Koshland Park and Garden. Our terrific Recreation and Park Gardener, Freddie Ealom, was on board to direct volunteers in the park, and Nora Brereton led the volunteers in the garden.
Most of our male teens from the BEETS Program came out to do the heavy lifting and wheelbarrow wood-chip brigade. Some of the projects we got done amidst the blooming flower and fruit trees were: planting starts, moving wood chips, weeding along the garden fence, painting signs, mulching with straw, pruning ivy and cleaning the tool shed.
It was a beautiful day to be outdoors and enjoy the park and garden.
Please join us for a great party on October 16th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Koshland Park Garden in San Francisco. This outdoor garden fundraiser for CommunityGrows will showcase our programs and the great work we are doing. There will be live music, delicious local food, performances by the youth we serve, a silent auction and great company. Please join us for a fun afternoon!
