Yale Day of Service in Koshland Park

5.11.13-KP-Wkday-Yale-Washington_IMG_0357Who would have dreamed the day would turn out so beautiful? Blue skies and no wind or oppressive heat! The perfect combination for a workday in Koshland Park and Garden. To make it even better, today, May 11, 2013, was the Yale Day of Service and many Yale volunteers came to help out, along with our Starbucks partners, a few of our CommunityGrows Advisory Board members, and a great group of teens from George Washington High School in San Francisco. So much was accomplished in just under three hours: We picked up pruned leaves in the park, spread wood chips onto paths in the garden, weeded succulents, tree wells, hillsides, and paths in the park. We removed woody compost, small bricks and urbanite out of the garden. We pruned perennial bushes, the herb garden and the raspberry patch, as well as mulched the lettuce and broccoli beds and sweep the stage and concrete steps in the garden.

It was great fun to work together outdoors and make this garden even more beautiful. If you are in the neighborhood, you should stop by and marvel at all that is blooming and growing here. It is truly a hidden gem. Check out more photos from the day here.
