DCYF DCYF awards multi-year grant for cultivating healthy youth!

We are so grateful and excited to be awarded a 5-year grant from the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families! This substantial grant will support our Seed to Mouth Garden Education Program, which teaches environmental and nutritional education using gardens as classrooms.

BEETS Giants BEETS Grow in Our Neighborhood

Spring is in the air and our gardens are flourishing! But the sun isn’t the only reason the gardens are looking so fresh — the BEETS have been out in the gardens planting, watering, weeding, and cleaning to make our spaces healthy and inviting. Volunteer at MLK Day 2018 #MLKDay of Service: Honoring Dr. King

“Make it a day on, not a day off.” This was the rallying phrase as thousands of people across the U.S. turned out on January 15th to celebrate and honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy. On Monday, CommunityGrows joined the AAACC, Citizen Film, and 3.9 Art Collective for our own day of service event with guest speakers, garden projects, and community art.

October 20th, 2017

September is a month of beginnings – the beginning of the school year, the beginning of fall – and at John Muir Elementary School, it marked the beginning of our monthly Salad Days. Since students also participate in our Environmental Education classes, Salad Days allow them to be fully engaged in all the steps of the garden process: planting, cultivating, harvesting, and most importantly, eating!
