BEETS Host Teen Scholars from Around the Country

On Thursday, July 5, 2012, the BEETS hosted a group of youth from the Civic Education Project (CEP) of Northwestern University’s Center for Talent Development. CEP is a service-learning immersion program for outstanding middle and high school students from throughout the country. These youth participated in a Civic Week program in San Francisco, and visited many different sites on their week-long adventure. This group of youth are the Jack Ken Cooke Foundation’s Young Scholars, and were focused on learning about Environmental Justice, from root causes to innovative programs, especially those like CommunityGrows, that are addressing this issue in the Bay Area.

Like our Beets, these students are challenged to develop a sense of civic and environmental engagement, as well as to develop their individual talents, and apply their skills and passions to make a difference in the world.
